The non-profit association Interkulturelle Bildung e.V. was founded in 1993 in order to promote secondary, academic and cultural education.

The Otto Benecke Foundation, the Technical University Hamburg-Harburg, the British Foreign Office and many firms (e.g. Pflegen und Wohnen) have been our partners for many years. We are sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, and by the Department of Social Affaires and Family of the City of Hamburg.

About Ourselves

Founded in 1993, the non-profit association Interkulturelle Bildung Hamburg has committed itself to high standards of language training and exam preparation. Our objective is to promote secondary, academic and cultural education. In addition to teaching the German language, we emphasize intercultural competence and understanding. The comprehension of and respect for different cultures are the indispensable prerequisite of acquiring intercultural competence in order to cope with the multiple challenges which today’s globalized world of studies and business represents.

We endeavour to make the participants of our courses feel at ease. In a friendly and open atmosphere mutual conversations play an important part.

We place emphasis on qualified instruction which reflects the latest standards of teaching methods and didactics. The quality of instruction is ensured by extensive quality management. Our team consists of about 50 teachers and social workers who possess an academic degree in education or social pedagogy and have many years’ experience in adult education.

Quality Standards

IBH has committed itself to the quality standards of Weiterbildung Hamburg and bears the seal of certification “Certified Institution of Further Education”. The seal guarantees customer protection, transparent conditions of participation and binding standards for our course participants.

IBH is an approved institution of professional further education under the law of employment promotion. In order to obtain approval, IBH proves during an inspection procedure that it fulfils the requirements of the bylaw on recognition of and admission to further education. The inspection is conducted by the Hanseatic Agency of Certification.

Our Education Centres

Our two education centres have large, bright classrooms as well as modern equipment, such as a multimedia language laboratory and a computer room with access to Internet.

The education centre on Hübbesweg is located in an historic school building near downtown Hamburg (13 minutes from Central Station).

The education centre Turnierstieg lies on the site of the Osterbek Gymnasium (20 minutes from Central Station). Both centres have sufficient parking facilities.
