Supplementary Course: Public Relations

As part of its program for university graduates the Otto Benecke Foundation offers unemployed graduates the opportunity to participate in a thirteen-month supplementary course in the area of Public Relations. The course is conducted by IBH and Leuphana University of Lüneburg.
Course Dates
April 1, 2012
Eligibility
Immigrant as well as native university graduates are eligible to participate if
- they receive unemployment benefits (Arbeitslosengeld 1 or 2), and
- have received their academic degree in Arts and Humanities. This applies, e.g., to teachers with a degree in Arts and for journalists. Graduates in science are also elegible.
Aims
The supplementary course prepares students for a variety of tasks and activities in the sphere of public relations. Thus, you will acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge, the qualifications beyond your special field, and contacts which will enable you to manage successfully (re)integration into the labor market.
You will acquaint yourself with methods, techniques and tools of modern public relations work. Moreover, you will familiarize yourself with basic principles of Economics. You will train your communicative and linguistic faculties – both in German and in English. We will teach you the current and essentially technical systems such as Web 2.0, as well as research and information strategies. A special project will enable you to launch a complete PR-campaign on your own. In the following phase of specialization, you will choose your main field and prepare yourself for the final three-month practical training in which you will be able to test your newly acquired knowledge.
Duration and location
The course consists of eleven months of theory (propaedeutics, practice-orientated project work, deepening study): eight months of theoretical training, and a three-month practical training. Classes will be held on the campus of Leuphana University of Lüneburg and at IBH.
Accomodation
Students who do not live within commuting distance will be accommodated in Hamburg or Lüneburg. We will lend you assistance in finding a suitable accommodation. The practical training can be done at the student’s domicile.
Financing
The supplementary course is financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and by the European Social Fund. Recipients of unemployment benefits will continue to receive social assistance during the course. Any problems concerning cost of living, travel expenses between domicile and training place, accommodation, learning material etc. will be dealt with by the Otto Benecke Foundation in agreement with ARGE. Participation in the course does basically not constitute any legal claim to BAFÖG.
